Author Offers “A Proven Way to Catch Big Catfish” Curt Bartmess’ new book mines his lifetime of catfish fishing for readers Wynnewood, OK (PRWEB) August 28, 2012 There are as many methods, practices and indices of advice on fishing as there are fishermen, but with the publication of his new book “A Proven Way to Catch Big Catfish” (published by AuthorHouse) Curt Bartmess offers a precise and honest method of landing record-setting catfish. After years of studying fish and their habits, Bartmess is revealing many of the secrets of catching big catfish, including how to bait the hook, set the hook and best places to fish. An excerpt from “A Proven Way to Catch Big Catfish”: “Going back to the rod and reel—you can use a fish big enough to eat as bait. Simply put the 11 degree hook through its mouth and out its gill, and then insert the hook into the meaty part of the tail, pointing the hook out of the skin. Then let down into water not over twenty inches deep and tie it to a log or strong limb that will not give. A big catfish will try to swallow your fish, only he will [...]

Compared with other conventional catfish baits that require more tackle to hold the bait on the hook punch bait is considerably thicker which will allow the catfish bait to keep on the hook with none of this excess tackle. Punch bait is customarily manufactured with a cheese base and then further components are added which includes fiber to make the bait thick and then further components to enable draw in catfish. The angler can take a treble hook and lays the hook on top of the punch bait for catfish and then “punches” the hook into the bait making use of a stick. The bait is then smoothed more than the prime of the hook and the hook is then pulled out at an angle, resulting in a baited hook. This approach of punching the hook into the bait is what offers this bait its name. These varieties of baits are quite helpful for channel catfish. While they can be powerful for blue catfish on situation anglers really should anticipate to have their most results catching channel catfish with punch bait. There are numerous various strategies that an angler can rig for fishing with these baits but most favored is [...]

Some of the many types of catfish are saltwater cats, leopard, flat heads, shovel billing and channel catfish. Fishing techniques differ according to the type of water you are fishing in. A few of the basic things you need to consider for techniques of catfishing include how to rob a catfish, what the best bait for catfish is, how to attract catfish and just the right moment to catch them. Catfish are available in many varieties but before you fish for them, you should know some well-tested tips for catfishing. These techniques and tips can make your catfishing easier, especially if you are inexperienced. Robbing a catfish To rob a catfish you need to use different types of bait and the weight of that bait should allow your hook and line to remain stable. Your loop should be long enough that your bait can be held from a distance. The best catfish bait includes shrimp and chicken livers. Some other things that can become helpful in catfishing are - Snails - Worms - Cheese - small fishes - clams - minnow - bologna Whatever you use, make sure that the bait is fixed perfectly on the hook. Possibly more important [...]

Every angler who has caught catfish will have put forward their most successful bait. The strange thing is that they will all be different. I truly believe that the catfish (especially the Channel catfish) will eat anything animal, vegetable or mineral. After years of catching catfish I can say I have caught them on a whole variety of natural baits. But I have also caught them on bread, smoked salmon, salmon eggs, sweet corn, cheese, hot dogs, bologna, salami, green peas, trout paste, plastic worms, wooden lures and many “homemade” concoctions. I will also say that the Flatheads and Blues definitely have a preference for live fish, but will take the same variety of baits as the Channel if they are properly presented. (Catfish never say no to an easy meal.) There are, however, some catfish baits which catch more than their fair share and I will describe these further. They are not universal success and will be better in some waters than in others, but then the effectiveness of baits for catfish will vary from day to day. Two of the best baits are crawdads (crawfish) and leeches. Leeches are difficult to catch and impossible to buy, but if [...]

To be successful at any type of fishing, you need to understand the behavior of the fish you’re pursuing. Channel catfish are no exception. Channel cats prefer cooler, deeper, cleaner water than bullheads, and water with a sand or gravel bottom. During the day, they hide among rocks or logs. Channel cats feed both day and night, although they are best fished from dusk through early night. They take a large part of their food from the bottom, but they also feed at the surface. As scavengers, channel catfish will eat almost anything, dead or alive. They prefer minnows, crayfish, and aquatic insects or invertebrates. Trot or jug lines, or rod and reel are favored fishing methods. With their impressive size and high quality flesh combine to make Channel Catfish popular as a sport fish. Baits The type of bait you use depends on your imagination. Channel catfish are opportunistic feeders and will eat any item that smells like food. They also use smell to locate food. Keep those two things in mind, and you’ll do well. Using the right bait is probably the most confusing part of channel catfish fishing, and there are nearly as many concoctions as there [...]

Catfish are popular amongst many types of fishermen. There are 37 catfish families and these species are found in both freshwater and saltwater, depending upon the type of catfish. Perhaps one of the most distinctive traits which catfish possess is their catlike whiskers, or barbels. It is hard to mistake a catfish for another type of fish due to this visible attribute. Catfish are creatures of habit, during the day they tend to hide around submerged rocks and logs where they can shelter themselves from any possible predators. It is at nighttime when these unique fish seek out the open water to find food. Catfish are plentiful in number with regard to family and species type. They are found in various areas throughout the world although certain types of catfish stay within certain regions. Catfish vary in size, depending on their age and what variety they are. They can range anywhere from a few inches to a few feet and come in a variety of weights as well. One unique trait which a catfish possesses, in addition to the familiar barbells, is the lack of any scales. This also makes identifying a catfish quite an easy task for beginner and [...]

Most fishermen use a wide range of baits straight from the tub or bag and often miss out on improved results by not enhancing these baits in unusual ways before use! For example, the humble worm or maggot can be dipped in a variety of flavours. Many anglers might think of those based on solvents for example, but I’m talking more about using real worm juice to boost attraction. But commercially available bait sprays are excellent for boosting attraction of natural baits. Scopex or Tutti Fruitti flavour sprayed onto boilies can really boost results making them stand out. Hemp seed cooked with the addition of anything from aniseed oil, chilli powder, liquid yeast or corn steep liquor will enhance it and make it different from the usual hemp introduced. Using a dip composed of different manufacturers dips mixed together can be devastating as can mixing different based flavours or essential oils together in a standard dip. Colouring baits can make a big difference and some days fish might take bait of one colour and not another. Edible dyes come in an amazing variety these days. Again maggots are a good example here where bronze coloured ones and reds even pink [...]
